Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has urged his team-mates to “take more responsibility” ahead of Thursday’s Europa League last-16 second leg against AZ Alkmaar.

The forward was speaking after his side’s disappointing 2-2 draw at Bournemouth on Sunday.

“Everyone has to look back at themselves, nobody is going to help us except ourselves on the pitch,” Son said.

“The players who are playing have to take more responsibility, I have always said that and look, we started sluggishly. There were times when we were behind and we had to chase a goal. It is not the way it should be.

“Everybody has to look at ourselves. Nobody will help us except on the pitch,” Son said.

“I think those guys who are playing need to take more responsibility as I always say and look, it’s been many, many times we have been sloppy, we start sloppy, get behind and then chase the game. It’s not ideal.

“We have to be very strong and make a step forward. You can’t always stay on the same stairs, you have to try to make a step forward as we move on.”
